Smėlis Tavo Plaukuose (EN: Sand in Your Hair)

Feature film by Mantas Verbiejus (106 min. ; 2025)

Malvina, once a celebrated ballerina now in her mid-eighties, moves through her days in a quiet, suffocating routine. Her world shifts when she meets Kipras, a gifted painter of the same age whose curiosity and vitality awaken something long dormant in her. What begins as a gentle companionship soon becomes a daring act of self‑liberation.

Together, Malvina and Kipras defy the expectations imposed on them by family, caregivers, and society at large. Escaping the well-meaning control of relatives and institutions, they embark on a journey that challenges taboos around aging, intimacy, and autonomy. Their flight is not just physical, it is an emotional rebellion against the invisible constraints that have shaped their lives.

Unfolding like a late-life pas de deux, SMELIS TAVO PLAUKUOSE is a tender, defiant story of resilience, desire, and the courage to reclaim one’s own narrative. It asks whether love can soften loneliness, and whether two aging hearts can still rewrite the ending they were never allowed to choose.
